Our Gentle Senior
Firefly
An Arabian mare who came to us through a horse therapy program that helped Jackson build motor skills and core strength. She found her way into our hearts and never left.
Firefly
We met Firefly through a horse therapy program — one that made a real difference for Jackson. Working with her helped him build motor skills and core strength in ways that other therapies hadn’t. She was patient with him in the way that good therapy horses are: steady, responsive, and completely unbothered by the things that can make a child’s session unpredictable.
Arabians are known for their bond with people, and Firefly is a good example of that. She picks up on the energy around her and adjusts accordingly. With Jackson, she was calm. With the farm, she’s been the same way — settled, trusting, and quietly content.
She holds a special place here. Some animals come to us out of necessity. Firefly came to us because she earned it. She gave something to our family, and now this is where she gets to just be.
“She helped Jackson in ways we weren’t expecting. Keeping her here felt like the least we could do.”
About Firefly
Arabian Horses — One of the Oldest Breeds on Earth
The Arabian is one of the oldest horse breeds in the world, with roots going back thousands of years to the deserts of the Middle East. Bred by Bedouin tribes who depended on them for survival, Arabians were raised in close proximity to people — sometimes inside family tents — which shaped a temperament uniquely tuned to human connection.
They are quick to bond, sensitive to the people around them, and known for their longevity. Many Arabians live well past 30 years. That lifespan, combined with their intelligence and responsiveness, makes them one of the most valued breeds for therapy work, trail riding, endurance, and companionship.
Ancient Origins
Arabians trace back to at least 2500 BCE. Bred by Bedouin tribes in the Arabian Peninsula, they were raised alongside families and selected for intelligence, endurance, and gentle temperament.
Bond with People
Arabians are known for forming deep bonds with their handlers. They are sensitive to human emotion and energy, which makes them exceptional therapy horses for children and adults alike.
Longevity
Arabians often live 25 to 30 years or more, outliving many other breeds. Senior Arabians can remain healthy and comfortable with proper nutrition, dental care, and regular veterinary attention.
Built for Endurance
With a slightly different skeletal structure than most breeds and dense, strong bones, Arabians were built to travel long distances in difficult conditions. They are the top breed in competitive endurance riding.
