Are you fascinated by bees and interested in learning the art of beekeeping (apiculture)? Do you want to work hands-on with honeybee colonies, help them thrive, and contribute to pollinator conservation? Hidden Bee Farm is looking for dedicated volunteers to assist in maintaining and expanding our beehives.
We simply haven’t had the time to expand our hives as we’d like, and we’re looking for individuals who are eager to learn, care for bees, and support their vital role in agriculture and the environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a volunteer beekeeper, you will gain hands-on experience in beekeeping, working directly with our hives to ensure they are healthy and thriving. Your responsibilities may include:
- Hive Maintenance & Expansion – Assist with hive inspections, monitor colony health, and help establish new hives as we grow.
- Honey Harvesting & Processing – Learn how to extract honey, handle honeycombs, and bottle fresh farm honey.
- Pollinator Support & Habitat Care – Help create a bee-friendly environment by planting flowers and maintaining hive surroundings.
- Hands-on Beekeeping Training – Learn about bee behavior, hive structures, colony roles, and disease prevention.
- Bee Health & Safety – Monitor hives for pests, diseases, and other threats to ensure the well-being of our bees.
What It Takes
Beekeeping is a rewarding but physically demanding job. Volunteers must meet the following requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old – Due to the nature of beekeeping and farm safety, this opportunity is open to adults only.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs – Hive boxes, honey frames, and beekeeping equipment can be heavy.
- Comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn and follow detailed instructions – Beekeeping requires patience, care, and attention to detail.
- Commitment to training – No prior experience is necessary, but volunteers must be dedicated to learning proper beekeeping techniques.
- Must wear protective gear – Safety is a priority. We provide bee suits, gloves, and veils to ensure proper protection while working with the hives.
