Dixie’s journey to our sanctuary began with a heartbreaking story. Her previous owner thought she was “ugly” and no longer wanted her. When we first met Dixie, she was in bad shape both physically and emotionally, with an unkempt coat and sad eyes.

Over time, Dixie began to show her true personality. Despite her collapsing esophagus and chronic allergies, she never let these challenges stop her from exploring and enjoying life. Her love for food and treats became evident, and we made sure she had a balanced diet to maintain her weight and health.
Dixie is getting up in years, but her charm quickly won over our hearts and the hearts of our visitors. Children, in particular, are drawn to her gentle nature and cute looks. She has a special gift for connecting with kids, and we started incorporating her into our educational programs. “Story Time With Dixie” allows children to sit with her and read their favorite books, while she listens intently with her big, beautiful eyes.
Now, Dixie is a beloved member of our animal family, spreading joy and happiness wherever she goes. She has become a favorite among visiting children, helping us instill empathy and compassion in the younger generation.
