The Little One with Big Opinions
Johnny
A miniature pony with Fabio-level hair, a giant personality, and an ongoing campaign to convince the bigger horses that he is in charge.
Johnny
Johnny is small. Johnny does not know he is small. This is the central fact of his existence and honestly it makes him one of the more entertaining animals on the farm.
Integrating him with the other horses has been a process. He comes in with a lot of enthusiasm and not always the best read on the room. He overplays his hand. He gets corrected. He tries again. He is going to be just fine — it’s just going to take a little work and a lot of patience, which fortunately are two things we have in good supply here.
Beyond the social negotiations, Johnny is genuinely funny and genuinely sweet. He has an extraordinary amount of hair for his size. The kind of flowing mane that makes people stop and stare. He is irresistible and he knows it, which is probably not helping the confidence situation.
“He has absolutely no idea how small he is. We are choosing to see this as a strength.”

Miniature horses and ponies are not just small versions of regular horses — they are their own thing entirely. Bred over centuries from Shetland and other small pony lines, they have the full personality, intelligence, and stubbornness of their larger cousins packed into a considerably smaller package.
They are curious, social, and people-oriented in a way that can catch you off guard. They live 25 to 35 years or more, which means a miniature pony is a long-term commitment. They require the same veterinary care, dental care, hoof trimming, and attention as any horse — just less feed and less space.
Size
Most miniature horses stand under 34 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 150 and 350 pounds. They are significantly smaller than the average horse but carry none of that in their confidence levels.
Intelligence
Miniatures are smart and curious. They pick up on things quickly, which means they learn good habits fast — and bad ones even faster. Consistent handling matters a lot with this breed.
People-Oriented
Miniatures are known for following people around, seeking attention, and generally behaving more like a large dog than a horse. They form strong bonds and do not like being ignored.
Longevity
With good care, miniature horses regularly live 25 to 35 years — longer than most full-sized horses. Some have been documented living into their late 30s and 40s.
